Prayers Of Righteous Men

There is no question that America was founded by men who held a strong belief in the Bible and referred to it as they challenged Great Britain, and more specifically, King George III when they wrote the Declaration of Independence. These were men of prayer up against great odds. With a sparsely armed militia made up of farmers and country folk and with very little training they fought against one of the most powerful armies in the world. They defeated tyranny with prayer, faith, and a strong conviction that God’s will would prevail.

They didn’t stop there. They then prayerfully created a document acknowledging that God is the supreme being and that there are a certain amount of rights and freedoms that are given by God and that no man and no government has the right to take away. They wrote the United States Constitution and gave us the Bill of Rights which ensured that the power belonged to We the People and that we would retain our rights.

Every person who has held a national elected office has taken an oath to defend the Constitution. Never in our history has any politician come so close to defying that oath and it is not just one man but many politicians who hold office at this time. These politicians have begun criminalizing citizens for exercising the rights that we are guaranteed. We are being lead by men who do not know the difference between right and wrong. Their hearts are given to evil and they have misled many others who follow them.

The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked: who can know it?
Jer. 17:9

The founding fathers knew that the heart could be deceived and therefore designed the American Constitution as a set of laws that apply equally to each citizen with no favoritism to anyone, whether they are a police officer, a legislator, or even the president. Each person has a responsibility to follow the laws or be punished accordingly. The Constitution is the most well thought out and effective document ever written to govern a free society. But it requires honest men to safeguard it. Unfortunately, dishonest men have taken the oath and are corrupting the Constitution and working hard to destroy it.

There is no truth that can be drawn from the politicians and the media. They do not know truth. They change the rules each day and while we are still fighting yesterdays battle they have already moved on to tomorrows, leaving us flustered and confused. We are in war, not of idealism, but of good against evil. It is a spiritual battle. Those who reject the teaching of the Lord are given to Satan. This is a battle which has no earthly weapons, only prayer, faith, and a strong conviction that God will prevail. Without God we cannot win this battle. Even a civil war is useless if we continue to reject our Savior.

God always has a perfect plan. But God does not impose His perfection on a people who do not ask for it. They will not appreciate it. His plan is ready to be utilized; He wants His people to pray to Him, to have a relationship with Him. He wants men to honor Him, to love and trust him and know that He is a God who keeps His word. He wants us to pray earnestly without ceasing and then He will hear us.

The founding fathers understood this and they were blessed with victory over a superior army. Due to their understanding of man's propensity towards evil, they were able to write the best document outside of the Bible, ever published to a free nation for over two hundred years.  America is a country that almost three million men and women have died or been wounded in combat trying to protect. America is a country that many people have risked their lives to come to and make a better life for themselves and their families. America is worth getting on our knees to save.

We need to understand this too. We need to be like the founding fathers. Build your faith in Christ and then allow Him to work in you. Through worldly eyes the odds are not in our favor, but our God is at the helm and He will not let us down.  The victory is ours.  Fellowship and keeping the dialogue with others is a good thing but we need to avoid useless arguments with those whose hearts are closed to the truth. Encourage each other daily. Pray not so much for the country as for the hearts of men to be broken. For when men take responsibility and govern themselves, the nation will follow.

Jesus replied,”…I tell you the truth, if you have
faith as small as a mustard seed, you can
say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’
and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:20
