UNITED WE STAND

One thing we can take away from this past Tuesday’s election is what can occur when disagreement creates division and trumps common sense. In Virginia, the Republican Party decided to limit financial support for their standard bearer, Ken Cuccinelli. In turn, they lost a governorship in a state crucial to the 2016 presidential election.
We know by news reports the Democrat Party and the Republican establishment disdain the Tea Party and also that the GOP has decided to thwart them at every opportunity. Was this the reason for not supporting Mr. Cuccinelli? If so, is it smart for the Republicans to seek to destroy their base because they differ with them on some issues?

The Bible tells us division is never an answer and is a precursor to destruction. Jesus said:
“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.”            (Matthew 12:25)
Therefore, Tuesday night begs the question: is the Republican establishment willing to destroy the entire party, rather than work with the Tea Party? Are they willing to sacrifice all to keep the status quo? It is foolish for the Republicans to bite the hand that feeds them but, apparently, this is the decision they have made.
Who is the Tea Party? At this point in time, it is not a formal political party. It consists of like minded citizens who have become a powerful force in American politics. Most are average Americans who work, pay taxes and vote and who are only concerned for the welfare of their families and their nation. Many have never been politically involved other than to vote on Election Day. In reality, the Tea Party is nothing more than we the people demanding our leaders listen to us and keep the campaign promises they made
The Tea Party is not the only group whom the Republican Party holds in contempt. For years, Conservatives have been pushed aside for their principled stance on issues. The moderate and liberal wing of the party leans to the left and would much rather compromise with the Democrats than fight alongside the Right, especially on matters of faith and morals.
The mainstream media and the Democrat Party have now convinced some Republicans that if the party becomes more liberal on issues such as immigration, abortion and gay rights, they can attract more voters. This, of course, is foolishness because why would someone vote for a Republican posing as a Democrat when they can vote for the Democrat Party’s candidate? Unfortunately, the GOP has chosen to listen to everyone except those who will support their candidates and help them to get elected.
“Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” (Proverbs 26:12)
Lord Acton wrote “power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely” and so it can and does, especially when someone forgets why they have it and who it was that gave it to them. Power is addictive and the passion to keep it can be dangerous and fraught with pitfalls. However, we are blessed to live in a nation with a representative government and free elections. Therefore, we are able to remove any elected officials who have a short memory span.
Replacing those who have held their seat long term is not an easy task.  Relationships have been built upon years of cronyism and with lobbyists donating to their cause, the monies available to their coffers seems without end. However, we must always remember they, like us, only have one vote. This is what we need to take away from Virginia’s election. Let it strengthen and arm us for 2014. The opposition may seem more powerful but we can and will win if we remember we are not fighting alone.
Throughout the Old Testament, the Israelites fought those who were greater in number. Yet, they won every battle when they obeyed the Lord and allowed Him to lead them to victory. David was a king who was strong and mighty because he sought the Lord for His counsel and then listened and obeyed God’s direction.
“So David inquired of the LORD, saying, ‘Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?’ And He answered him, ‘Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all’.” (1Chronicles 30:8)

If Christians keep this in mind, we will have the victory and regain control of the government in every branch and on every level. By fighting evil as God has taught us, listening to Him and obeying His commands we will overcome the enemy of our souls and those who do his bidding.
The world is under the control of demonic powers and Satan wants to divide rather than unite. However, the Lord asks us to love one another and to be in harmony because, in this, lies the victory. Israel was united in their battles and so must we be in ours. If we are to take our country back, we must be strong in the Lord and united in our cause.

If our desire is to restore our nation to its foundational principles we must first begin to unite the Body of Christ. We must encourage our brothers and sisters in the Lord to become engaged in the political process. We must also pray to know who the Lord has raised up and then give them our support in whatever way possible. Last, but not least, we must go to the polls and cast our vote for them on Election Day.

We must do all we are able and then believe God and trust Him to lead us, guide us and give us the victory. With faith in God, hope in our nation’s future and the courage and determination to win, we will again become “one nation under God”.
